The course is introductory, with skills considered standard for the high-quality practice, including diagnostic procedures (bladder, ear, nose, and laparoscopy). Integration of endoscopy into a practice is enhanced if a technician can accompany a veterinarian to the course. Day 1 includes cystoscopy, rhinoscopy, and video-otoscopy. Day 2 includes basic laparoscopy for biopsies, cancer staging, and laparoscopic assisted gastropexy and cystoscopic calculi removal. The course is designed to get veterinarians started in minimally invasive surgery. 15.0 C.E. hours

Evidence-Based Veterinary Medicine Symposium

Evidence-based medicine (EBM) is defined as the conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients. The aim of the symposium is showcase the latest studies and reviews of EBM in veterinary medicine. Furthermore the symposium will provide a forum to learn the methodology, and techniques for implementation of EBM for the practicing clinician. 6.5 CE Hours

Basic Small Animal Gastro-Intestinal Endoscopy
August 5-6, 2008
UGA College of Veterinary Medicine
Morning lectures will be followed by "hands-on" labs. Day 1 focuses on esophagoscopy, gastroscopy, and duodenoscopy. Day 2 provides more practice and colonoscopy instruction. Biopsies and foreign body removal will be performed. 15.0 C.E. hours

Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery
August 9-10, 2008

Laparoscopy and thoracoscopy lectures on techniques and case presentations with advanced psychomotor skills training, knot tying, and use of ligasure and radiofrequency on day 1. Day 2 will be devoted to “hands-on” laparoscopy. Energy devices (ligasure and radiofrequency for endoscopy) and stapling equipment will be used. Equipment from Covidien and Ellman. 15.0 C.E. hours

Exotic Animal Diagnostic Endoscopy
UGA College of Veterinary Medicine
One of the internationally acclaimed endoscopy training programs from the University of Georgia is designed to teach the theory and practical applications of diagnostic endoscopy in birds, reptiles, and small mammals.. This is a basic to intermediate-level course, and fundamental knowledge of avian and reptilian anatomy is assumed. In addition, there will be over eight hours of practical lab time in which you will be able to practice and develop your skills on anesthetized (non-recovery) research iguanas and pigeons scheduled for euthanasia. 15.0 C.E. hours

The Board of the GVTAA has made the decision to promote local run CE events for our members.
We will continue to host our Annual Spring Conference in conjunction with the UGA Alumni Conference each year.
We are also working on an Annual Fall Conference to be held in southern Georgia, to honor our VT Student members. We are hoping to get this started in Fall 2008. Our hopes are to award scholarship/awards to students from each of the 4 current VT programs across the state of Georgia.
During this Fall Conference, we also hope to award the titles of:
