NAVTA Representative
Bob Storey, RVT
Bob Storey serves as veterinary technician, lab manager, and assistant research scientist in the parasitology research labs of Dr. Ray M. Kaplan at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. Bob is also the FAMACHA© program manager for North America. He earned an AT from Gwinnett Technical College in veterinary technology, a BS from Georgia Tech in physics, and a MS from Georgia Tech in physics, as well as an AS from Gordon College in mathematics and an AA from NYU in photography. Storey discovered his love for small ruminant medicine and parasitology after spending more than five years breeding purebred Toggenburg dairy goats and owning llamas. He left his job with a Fortune 500 company to study veterinary technology, receiving both his VT degree as well as his RVT license (in Georgia) in 2007. Storey joined Dr. Kaplan’s lab team immediately after graduation, bringing newly acquired veterinary skills, along with years of management and scientific research experience to the Kaplan team. In three years, he has co-authored five professional publications, made 37 presentations at veterinary/professional conferences, trained hundreds of extension agents and producers in FAMACHA and SmartDrenching, as well as continued to maintain a small herd of Toggenburgs and one llama. His current research includes anthelminitic resistance in small ruminants, novel approaches to parasite control, characterization of coccidians in camelids, equine parasite resistance, as well as involvement in studies on Mycoplasma haemolamae, and dose titration of moxidectin and morantel tartrate for llamas and alpacas.
